Valery Spiridonov, 30, was diagnosed with a genetic muscle-wasting condition called Werdnig-Hoffmann disease, and volunteered for the procedure despite the risks involved, Central European News (CEN) reported. Dr. Sergio Canavero, an Italian neurosurgeon, will perform the procedure on Spiridonov.
